Folk♥Heart Bracelet Tutorial

Here's something for you for Valentine's Day. A cute, folksy, fabric bracelet. This project is easy to make and a great way to use up some fabric scraps. This is what you'll need to make your bracelet:

  • Fabric Scraps
  • Batting Scraps
  • Sewing Machine
  • Thread
  • Embroidery Thread & Needle
  • Scissors
  • Fabric Pen
  • Small Embroidery Hoop
  • Button
  1. Up first is our heart. You will need to decide what size you want your heart to be. I made mine about 2 inches big and I used a piece of linen and folded it in half ( your heart will need a front and a back piece). Trace a heart with your fabric pen on to the top of the fabric.
  2. Now you can write what you want on your heart. Get your embroidery hoop, embroidery thread and needle and embroider over what you just wrote.
  3. Now you're going to sandwich a piece of batting in between the top and bottom fabric. Secure all layers with a pin.
  4. Using a zig-zag stitch on you sewing machine. Sew around the outline of your heart.
  5. Cut heart out staying close to zig-zag stitching and set aside.
  6. Now you're going to cut out three strips of a coordinating fabric. These strips need to be long enough to go around your wrist comfortably, plus a couple inches extra.
  7. Once your strips are cut, you're going to braid them. I stuck the ends under my presser foot on my sewing machine, and then started braiding the strips. Leave a couple of inches on each end of your strips unbraided. Sew across these ends to secure.
  8. Sew on a button at one end, where you sewed to secure the strips of fabric.
  9. Sew the heart on at the center.
Now try on your new bracelet. Slide button through one of the braids to secure.By Debra Collins
